Talia Pate is a 22 year old senior at the University of Florida. She is a Telecommunications-News Major and plans to graduate in the summer of 2005. She was born and raised in Peoria, Illinois. She has been involved in many forms of journalism since 2000. During her time at Peoria Christian High School her father was deployed to Germany after September 11, 2001. Because of her father’s rank, she and her mother were responsible for family services for the unit. Talia took charge of the Family Services Newsletter and informed all the soldiers’ families of the troops health and welfare while overseas. At Illinois Central College she was an active staffwriter for the ICC Harbinger, the college newspaper. She covered the local hard news beat. Also during this time, she was able to intern at WMBD-ABC in Peoria. She worked part of a semester as a temporary associate producer of The Morning Mix and as a weekend reporter. At the University of Florida, Talia began working at AM850, a school-operated radio station. She worked the city commission beat because of minor – Urban and Regional Planning. After working for AM 850, she began working at Classic 89, the National Public Radio affiliate at the university. She started out as a reporter then worked as an afternoon anchor and currently works at the Morning Edition Host. Talia also works at the PBS television station at the University. She works as a reporter once a week and as the producer of Cox Local Edition three days a week. Talia has been active in her community, especially while at home in Illinois. She help the title of Miss Greater Peoria and competed in both Miss Illinois America and Miss Illinois USA. She was able to payfor her first two years of school with the scholarships won in those pageants. She was a volunteer at the Children’s Hospital of Illinois and at many other volunteer organizations and projects. Talia hopes to find a television reporting job after graduation but does not care where. She is willing to re-locate anywhere in order to find her dream job. Right now she lives in a house in Gainesville with her roommate and their four dogs. |
