Land Conservation In Alachua County: Introduction

By Saman Shamsi | 13 December 2007 | Introduction | Tracking the Spending | In the Words of the Caretakers

Alachua County, located in north central Florida, is a dynamic ecosystem significant to various wildlife and plant habitats. Many non-profits like Alachua Conservation Trust and governmentally supported groups like Alachua County Forever have been rallying to protect this environmentally significant land. But, lack of funding is making land conservation a very difficult task.

Land conservation is the protecting of land which is acquired through partnership with private land owners. Most of these lands become available to the public in the form of recreational parks, that most of us have come to enjoy.

These lands, and others like them, are under threat now with the lack of funding that is making land conservation nearly impossible today.
