This map shows us the five most important places involved in the Georgia-Alabama-Florida dispute.
The water from Lake Lanier, the main source of water in the southeast region, has its biggest consumers in these places:
The City of Atlanta, Georgia requires drinking water for upto 40% of its 5 million plus population.
The Farley Nuclear Plant in Alabama needs hydropower to supply electricity to 800,000 households.
Plant Scholtz, a provider of electricity to north Florida is also a hydropower consumer.
The most controversial of all, the Jim Woodruff Dam, requires a constant supply of water to preserve the fauna of the Apalachicola river.
This interactive map also gives us a very clear picture of the river flow and its consumers.
