Each week there are approximately two assignments, if not more, due.

Most exercises are due via e-mail at 3 p.m. before class starts -- but this is not always the case. Always check the requirements & due section below for every assignment. Work handed in late is not accepted.

Week 3 > Sept 9

Exercise
First Weblog Entry
Description
Make your first weblog entry & describe how your weblog will serve a resource for online journalists or those interested in your approved topic.

Refrain from making comments in your first post such as:

  • "I don't know what to say, but I'll try this anyway …"
  • "Here is my first post ..."
  • "This blog won't be interesting …"
Requirements
If applicable, incorporate links to relevant stories or items on the Web.

Remember blogging ethics: don't completely alter an item after it is posted & give credit to other bloggers where due (credit ex: "found via Tim").

All posts must be archived & archive links working (both on the post & in the archive list). If you decide to feature a comments section, ensure that it is working as well. In this first post, you are permitted to test the comment system (within reason).

Turn in the “Create a Weblog” & “First Weblog Entry” exercises together by sending one e-mail to Professor Trammell [ ktrammell@jou.ufl.edu ]. Make the e-mail subject line “First Weblog Entry” & include a URL to your first post in the body of the e-mail. Be sure to sign the e-mail using your first & last name.

Purpose
Provides a venue to practice online writing techniques (hypertext, chunking) while increasing knowledge about the field of journalism.
Context
The first post sets the tone for your blog & announces your purpose for blogging.
Examples
None
Due
 Sept 9 at 3 p.m.
