Each week there are approximately two assignments, if not more, due.

Most exercises are due via e-mail at 3 p.m. before class starts -- but this is not always the case. Always check the requirements & due section below for every assignment. Work handed in late is not accepted.

Week 13 > Nov 18

Exercise
Project 2 Article Proposal with Sources
Description
Create a list of the articles & sources (expert & agency) you (the journalist) are going to write on your subtopic of the “hate” issue.
Requirements
Discuss how your “hate” subtopic group wants to cover the area you are assigned. Each member of the group will write 3 components that fit into the larger subtopic that you cover as a group. There is to be no repetition of ideas within the subtopic.

Each group member must generate a list of at least two sources: one human expert and one agency/organization. Each group member must have a unique human expert and agency. Upon approval, you will interview the human expert and collect information from the agency for components.

The component ideas & list of sources is individually graded, but the exercise is due at the beginning of the team meeting with Prof. Trammell. Each group member is to list the following on a typed page that will be turned in during the meeting:

  • Team subtopic
  • Reporter name
  • Headline for each of the 3 proposed chunks
  • Abstracts (short description) of what each of the 3 chunks will be about & how they fits in to your team’s subtopic
  • Proposed sources for each chunk
Component ideas will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis. If one group proposes an angle before another group proposes a similar one then the second group is likely to have to come up with another article idea.
Purpose
This will ensure that members within groups are supporting one another's components & that each group is covering a unique area of the greater topic of "hate."
Context
When working in a group, there must be at least one person who knows what everyone else is doing to ensure that efforts are not repeated.
