Each week there are approximately two assignments, if not more, due.

Most exercises are due via e-mail at 3 p.m. before class starts -- but this is not always the case. Always check the requirements & due section below for every assignment. Work handed in late is not accepted.

Week 7 > Oct 7

Exercise
Project 1 Article Drafts
Description
Bring in 2 printed copies of the drafts for your 9 article chunks from the 3 international students interviewed. You will turn in 1 copy to the instructor & work with another student in a peer-editing process. Additionally, you are required to bring in each of your nine chunks (as outlined in the Story Components handout) on a floppy disk.
Requirements
Bring 2 printed copies of the 9 article draft chunks to class. There should be 3 written chunks for each of the 3 students interviewed. The articles must:
  • Have only one article chunk per page
  • Have the journalist's name on each page
  • Have the international student's name & related articles identified (either at top of bottom of the page)
  • If desired, identify prospective links within each article by putting a box around it & noting the link destination
Additionally, bring in the text files (saved as .txt in notepad as described in the Story Components handout) on disk. The files will be uploaded to the class share drive.

You must bring in both printed and electronic versions. The electronic versions must match the format described in the Story Components handout (distributed in class by Professor Bortree on September 30).

Purpose
When writing for the Web, it is much easier to ensure that all of the text is perfect & the links planned before ever evening starting the HTML formatting process.
Context
This is the final step before the chunks are formatted in HTML. After this, Project 1 transitions from a single student project to a class project in that all of the chunks from each student will be linked together on one site that tells the international stories of the students interviewed.
Examples
Due
 Oct 7 at 3 p.m.
Points
90 (10 / chunk)

The assignment description and requirements on the Web site supercede the written syllabus passed on the first day of class.
