This class is designed to teach journalism students to report and write for online media. Set up as an online newsroom, students are given assignments and projects as if they were assignments from his or her editor. Through the course of the semester, students will not only report through the Web, but report on online society as well.
The class produces two major online magazine projects.
Project 1 involves interviewing international students studying at the
University of Florida. Earlier this fall, the student reporters each sought
out three international students to tell their stories as a part of project
1. Project 1 is now online at http://projects.jou.ufl.edu/ktrammell/project1/
Project 2 allows students to report on a global issue. Students in the Fall 2003 course democratically decide on "Hate as Global Issue" for this project. Students worked in teams to report on hate through various angles: religion, ethnicity, hate crimes & a new generation of hate. This online magazines covers everything from the Salem witch trials to the Balkan ethnic conflict and much in between. Project 2 is now online at http://projects.jou.ufl.edu/ktrammell/project2/
